ICAEW-supervised practice & tax software

Tax filing, automated.

Built over more than a decade, ready for what's next. Basetax exists for one simple reason: filing your tax shouldn't be painful. Most of the process can be automated — and we've spent years proving it.

Where it started

A problem technology could quietly solve.

The idea behind Basetax took shape in 2010, long before "Making Tax Digital" was a phrase anyone used. The belief was straightforward: the manual, last-minute scramble most people go through every year was a problem technology could quietly solve.

So we started building. Over time, that software grew into a full, ICAEW-supervised accountancy practice — and it worked. Clients found us and stayed, some since 2014, trusting a platform that did the job long before it carried a brand to match.

"That loyalty is the proof we point to most — clients who stayed since 2014, long before the platform carried a brand to match. The idea was right from the start."

Why now.

The biggest change to personal tax administration in a generation — and exactly what Basetax was designed for.

From 6 April 2026, Making Tax Digital for Income Tax becomes mandatory for self-employed people and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 — meaning digital record-keeping and quarterly submissions to HMRC through compatible software.

April 2026

MTD becomes mandatory · over £50,000

Self-employed people and landlords with qualifying income above £50,000 must keep digital records and submit quarterly to HMRC through compatible software.

April 2027

Threshold lowers to £30,000

The qualifying-income threshold drops, bringing many more sole traders and landlords into Making Tax Digital.

April 2028

Threshold lowers to £20,000

The threshold lowers again to £20,000 — extending digital, quarterly reporting across most self-assessment taxpayers.

It's exactly what Basetax was designed for, more than a decade ago. So we've relaunched: a new brand, significantly slicker software, and a sharper experience — built around the way tax is now going, not the way it used to be.

What you get.

As both a regulated accountancy practice and a software platform, Basetax sits somewhere most providers don't.

Automated filing
